Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden

A first-class wellness experience at a Mallorcan boutique resort reflects the finesse of high-end design, manufacturing expertise and excellent design.

In Spain, the guests at an amazing resort boutique hotel are discovering new realms of luxurious accommodation. The picturesque boutique hotel Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden in the old town of Palma de Mallorca offers guests a wellness experience in the finest Mallorcan style. Designed by the award-winning architecture studio Ohlab, the property is an inviting combination of typical Mallorcan architecture and cosmopolitan chic, along with five-star superior service offering a stylish escape.

From the beginning, both Can Bordoy’s architects and the property itself had very clear objectives for their project and they selected Dornbracht as a partner, installing their most successful collection in Can Bordoy’s suites. The collection is 25 years old and it still remains the most popular range. The design is such that it is conducive to the environment, and this is reflected both in the materials used to manufacture the products, made from 100% recyclable material and in the use of a brass alloy which prevents lead from coming into contact with the water. The manufacturing process itself manages to reduce by 70% the water used and the showers are designed to use a rational amount of water.

City oasis with a pinch of extravagance

Located in the lively La Lonja district, the Can Bordoy is a small paradise comprised of rooms behind the ornate walls of a historic palace. The green inner courtyard enchants with a pool surrounded by old trees and modern loungers. The minimalist bathrooms feature the Tara Classic series in brushed brass – a wall-mounted washbasin mixer and a free-standing single-lever mixer for the bathtub. For those seeking an escape, the spa and wellness facilities include double massage cabins, a whirlpool, a special Ayurvedic treatment room and Dornbracht’s Horizontal ShowerATT.

The five pillars, called the five P’s: Precision, Performance, Proportionality, Progressiveness and Personality are related to how water flows out of the tap, allow each collection of the fittings to have a specific personality and not mere copies of the trends of the day. Massage shower for well-being

The first of its kind, this shower allows users to have a personalised shower experience while reclining. The innovative massage shower brings a new feeling of relaxation as tension melts away, everyday stress disappears with the water, and the body and mind noticeably revitalised with the unique design. It combines six water bars recessed above a flat surface as the central control element. Similar to a massage, three pre-programmed choreographies deliver a balancing, energizing or de-stressing experience.

“Remember that, in the beginning, you will be the only person who believes in your ideas. Visionaries are loners before they are recognised. However, in the end, they are the people that we most admire” These words, taken from Can Bordoy’s values manifesto, amply reflect the essential idea behind the fine design and manufacturing processes of the company that blazed a new trail by creating the first collection that added design to technology to functionality, forever changing the concept of a washroom.

Dornbracht’s Spanish Marketing Director, Esteve Barenys has talked about this project that presents water in its most glamorous form at the venue. He says that his company has opted for a bi-directional relationship with the world of architecture and interior design, both in taking nourishment from architectural and interior design trends when designing products and when looking for solutions, as well as how these products and solutions help the architect with their project development.

Design refined in washroom concepts

He says, “For the launch of our latest collection, called VAIA, we relied on four international architects and interior designers, one of whom is Neri & Hu, who is highly regarded across the world. We gave them one of our fittings, and from this, they have developed a bathroom concept and a selection of materials that combine with this fitting.”

He explains that in the late sixties till the early seventies, fittings were purely functional and it was at this time that his company decided to take a step forward in the bathroom world. Another key moment was in the 80s, when technology, use and functionality were becoming less important and people started to opt for design products. Since those early times the essential element of the keen design has been present in all their products, going beyond functionality and technology.

The five pillars called the five P’s: Precision, Performance, Proportionality, Progressiveness and Personality are related to how water flows out of the tap, allowing each collection of the fittings to have a specific personality and not mere copies of the trends of the day.
