The project was a very complicated one as the refurbishment was happening in an old structure, an old family home. “There was not a chance that we could move the walls so the prerogative remained to keep the structure untouched,” shares Tara Sharma Singla, Co-founder & Design Head, IDEARCH further adding that the client wanted a spacious toilet in the same room and wanted to accommodate a dresser and storage in the same space. “A linear arrangement and a fusion of the space seemed the solution.”
Tara adds, “The plumbing and services were designed to go through an external shaft; meticulously planned in an accidental void that appeared neglected in the whole scheme of things. It was intelligently accentuated to a beautifully adorned tile mural wall and as a source of light and ventilation along with a service shaft. It even added a great visual experience to the bathing and steam area which was right next to it.”
The client wanted a monotone look with some uniqueness. Team IDEARCH always believes that functionality opens a gateway to experiment in detail. “So, after we had finalised the arrangement of functions, we added bold hints of colour and pattern and a material palette to suit the requirements of the space. Combining Cement tiles, Italian stone and the satin-finished tiles was definitely a bold touch to the little space we had,” shares the designer.
