Washroom Accessories: The Silent Quotient

All elements, even dispensers can raise the bar for washrooms. New design ideas are the loud indicators of creative washrooms across the world today.

Designing a washroom is often construed as either creating an entirely new space in a new construction or renovating an old one. Spurred by lifestyle preferences, there is a whole new market for washroom makeovers, redesigning and upgrading.

There is a trend for washroom makeovers that seeks to recreate interiors with major changes in tune with the latest design trends. The fast changes and conceptions in the washroom sphere have actually galvanised tastes and trends so enormously that clients are demanding new changes in the old set-up, even if it is in perfect ‘working order’.

To put it differently, there are some models of design that never seem to go wrong. They could be labelled muted, underplayed, quiet, and even morose – but one never goes wrong by not doing anything bombastic or different. What design makes a great bathroom is always subjective, but every design must always have a basic style that is clear and distinctive if it is to be worth anything.

The common understanding is that it can come with individual talent and understanding but by being mindful of the simple measures like the ones above, the flow of creative juices can be heightened perceptively and practically and that is the vital differentiation that sets the terms for critical creative output.

Leading designers majorly focus on the ambience with surfaces, lighting and furniture. There are some other sure-fire features that are fast being accepted as elements that bring about distinct change, especially if the washroom is in a monotone or has a basic pastel colour combination.

The company, which is a leading creator and supplier of accessories to over 260 of the world’s most prestigious resorts and hotels is named after Susan Valerio, whose career spans three decades at Hong Kong’s Joyce Boutique and luxury store Lane Crawford.

Kelly Hoppen has designed for the company among others. As a successful businesswoman who often advises international clients on UK property investments, Kelly is an ambassador for the British government’s GREAT campaign for which she was awarded a CBE in October 2020.

New Materials

The idea of using recycled and reclaimed materials and products in the washroom is a trend that will stay and gain more popularity in the coming years. It is a global trend and the washroom can look spectacular when done perfectly. Accessories and other decorative elements offer a more pleasing and refined atmosphere if the recycled phenomenon is attached to them one way or the other.

Washroom accessories add a different personality to the space and the significance of subtle impressions that come with accessory design is now being felt in sophisticated washroom interiors.

Luxury Accessories

Renowned British interior designer Kelly Hoppen has created a new range of her collaborative bathroom accessories with luxury retailer SV CASA.  A neutral palette and clean lines dominate the look and feel of her collection. The clean lines and simplicity of the product mean the pieces make for versatile additions to a variety of spaces.

Both she and the Hongkong-based luxury retailer company have created this collection that is all about texture, organic shapes and the fusion of materials. The look and texture of the accessories ensure that the soul of the creation ‘is neutral enough for any interior’.

Her collection for the washroom is four sets of unique designs. The washroom accessories also include sculptures and tables made with liquid stone and resin.

The collection is a natural extension of Kelly’s evolving East-meets west style and purist approach to design. The accessories are inspired by her experience in designing luxurious hotel spaces that mirror her love for organic shape, texture and geometry.

Today, design sensibility is all about design sensitivity to future needs as much as it is to the topical and current styling. The minimalist style of fixtures, walls and colour palette are safe and perhaps predictable as well, but to break out of the time-tested and comfortable zone, it does not require bold moves on walls or floors but little accessories also contribute to the overall charm.

Kelly’s design philosophy, for example, as expressed in leading design journals has been to create a timeless elegance, combining eastern simplicity principles with western taste through luxury finishes and textures.
