This washroom has a warmth and rustic appeal. The distressed tiles are tactile and relaxing. The mirrors are hung on leather loops. These elements carry the narrative of the den into the washroom and make it one unit not physically but psychologically.
The Brief
The client’s mandate for this toilet was that since it was connected to their den, it had to double up as a guest toilet while they were entertaining in this part of the house although the floor does have a powder toilet. Besides, since the den has a day bed and could be used by guests, it was naturally a guest toilet too.
“We achieved this by strategic placement of the wardrobes and choosing the right mixture of materials for walls. Besides accessories like mirror etc are also put to add and extend the warmth of the den adjoining.” shares Pooja Bihani, Founder & Principal Architect, Spaces and Design.
Design Approach
The washroom originally was actually divided into two parts. A one-third portion was a walk-in dresser and the rest was designated as a toilet. “We chose to break the wall in between to give a larger appeal as it was for guests and wardrobe space required wasn’t much. Post this there was a dry area and a wet area. The dry area has wardrobes with a large mirror that not only enlarges the space visually but acts as a great dresser,” shares Pooja.
The look and feel of the toilet are on rustic chic lines and materials are rightfully chosen as distressed tiles, leather loops and open-pore veneer on the wardrobes. The detailing on the edge of the vanity, the styling of the mirrors as well as the staggering feel of the tiles all add up to beautifully sum up this narrative.
